9/20/2012 - SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany --  --

Name: Staff Sgt. DeAngelo Thomas

Unit: 52nd Force Support Squadron

Duty title: Fitness services supervisor and shift leader

Hometown: North Canton, Ohio

Years in Service: Five years

Why joined: I joined to do something that would make a difference different and be different from my peers.

Family: I am married to Staff Sgt. Jaquetta Thomas, and I have three brothers and three sisters.

Hobbies: Primarily, I like to read the Bible and autobiographies. I also enjoy playing spades with my wife.

Favorite aspect of job: I enjoy mentoring and listening to Airmen. Since I have a large family and am the second oldest, I enjoy being the one to help out.

Most memorable Air Force experience: I worked in food services for the first four years of my Air Force career. I was given the opportunity during that period of time to train with Gen. David Petraeus' executive chefs. Their professionalism and attention to detail taught me a lot. It also was a plus that the training was in his house, so I was able to help prepare a meal for Petraeus and his distinguished guest, Leon Panetta.

How do you make responsible choices:
I make responsible choices by reflecting on the mentoring I received when I made irresponsible choices. Knowing I have a family to lead and others watching my actions encourages me to make responsible choices.
