Fasching and much more!

Germany's Silly Season is approaching - Eifel communities are hosting Fasching events now through Ash Wednesday.
Ladies' Fasching officially kicks of traditions in February with storming the local city halls.

Although Fasching will officially start of Feb. 12 with Ladies' Day, many communities are already hosting activities this weekend through midnight, Feb. 17, the day before Ash Wednesday.

Most parades take place between noon and 4 p.m., Feb. 15-17.  Some communities will host parades as early as 12 or 14 February.  Events often kick off at 11 minutes past the hour on Fasching. People may ask their landlords, mayors, neighbors or friends for details and to find out locations and start off times for Fasching events.

Kappensitzung events typically including comedy sketches in the German language as well as show and dancing performances.  Entry To Kappensitzung events normally run between 5-8 Euros per seat. People arrive early to get  tickets at the door, to find good parking and seating.

Entry to all of the parades is free. Children bring bags to collect candy.  It is recommended to bring a camera for taking snapshots.

With the ongoing, freezing temperatures it's advisable to wear warm clothes. People are encouraged to wear costumes for any Fasching events and to join in the fun. This is, however, not a must.  Halloween costumes or a hat and funny looking shirt are perfect.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages is often involved in Fasching events. To stay out of trouble people must arrange for transportation after consuming. Police controls will be enforced throughout the Fasching season.
