October festivals take place in Wittlich and Bitburg, starting this weekend. Enjoy the Wittlich October festival at a huge festival tent Friday, 7 p.m. for the opening, until Oct. 31. There will be live bands, Bavarian food specialties and other entertainment at both festivals. Since some events require reservations and entry tickets for live band performances, it is recommended to review the program schedules beforehand at www.Oktoberfest-wittlich.de or call the Bitburg tourist information office at 06561-94340. Group table reservations are required for the weekends. Always arrange for transportation after consuming alcohol. Police controls will be enforced throughout the Eifel 's October festival season.
Participate in a vehicle-free bicycle event between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. through the Salmtal valley. On a stretch of 34 kilometers, people can bike, roller-skate or walk. Motor vehicles will not be allowed. Food and entertainment are scheduled along the way. A good start of point is the community of Dreis with a vast entertainment program.
The Mosel town of Neumagen-Dhron will host a wine street festival at 11 a.m., Sept. 27 on Romanstrasse. Food and entertainment are scheduled.
Enjoy a community October festival at 7 p.m., Sept. 27 at the Doerbach, Salmtal festival tent. On the schedule are Bavarian live music, provided by local music associations, food and entertainment.
Rowing boat rally
A rowing boat rally, an annual highlight event in Bernkastel, will take place Sept. 27 on the Mosel River in Bernkastel. For more information about this event, visit www.bernkastel.de.
Welfare October festival
A welfare October festival takes place as of 7 p.m. Sept. 27 with Bavarian life music, provided by local music associations. Activities at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 with Bavarian food specialties, a jumping castle for children, musical entertainment, provided by local music associations at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., coffee and cake in the afternoon and other fun activities. Listen to a saxophone concert with the motto "Nosaxnofun" at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Villa Romana in Veldenz, Mosel. Entry to the concert is free.
A childrens' toy auction takes place from 2-6 p.m. , Sept. 28 at the sports festival hall in Klausen, located near the sports grounds. More than 70 booths will be present. The 4th October festival of Hetzerath takes place Oct. 2-4, featuring party band performances at 7:11 p.m., against an entry fee of 9 Euros, a family day at 2:11 p.m., Oct. 3, featuring childrens' entertainment, coffee and cake in the afternoon; and a Mallorca party at 8:11 p.m., Oct. 4, with the music ensemble "Out of Control" performing, entry fee of 5 Euros. A giant flea market, featuring self-made art items surround owls, including about 1,500 owl sculptures will take place Oct. 4-5 at the Kasselburg park in 54570 Pelm. A children's flea market will also take place at the same time. Food and entertainment will be available. Kid Flea Market
A German-American kids' flea market takes place from 2-4 p.m., Oct. 5 at the Binsfeld community hall, located on Peter-von-Binsfeld-Str. 3. Coffee and cake will be available in the afternoon.
A concert by the Mainz Hofsaenger males' choir, which is famous in Europe, will take place at 3 p.m., Oct. 19 at the Himmerod Abbey. Doors will open at 2:30 with open seating arrangements.
Stores open Sunday
Enjoy a weekend shopping day, Sunday, Oct. 26 in Trier. Stores will be open between 1 and 6 p.m. throughout the city.

"City Campus meets Illuminale"
"City Campus meets Illuminale" is an event in Trier which features light and illuminations throughout the city Sept. 26. The event also includes music, dancing and acrobatic performances.

Several communities host annual festivals throughout the Oktoberfest season. Below is a brief listing of events around the local area.
The Wittlich festival kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, and lasts until Oct. 31. The festivities include live music, Bavarian food and other entertainment. Please review the event program at www.oktoberfest-wittlich.de.

Cancer Support Group
This group is designed to give survivors, spouses, and families the support and strength to move forward together, rather than alone. Meetings are held from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Coffee Mill on the last Monday of each month. For more information please contact Amanda Atwell at 0151-2503-8980.
Spangdamen Monthly Meetings

Music theme nights

Texas Hold'Em will be held from 6-10 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday at the Saber Sports Lounge. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Players can only participate one day a week. First Friday of the month 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. (unless there is a holiday), an informal opportunity to get the latest information on events and resources for all Sabers. Bi-weekly Saber Toastmasters meeting
Saber Toastmasters meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Spangdahlem Conference Room (inside Kuhl Beans) at 6 p.m. Saber Toastmasters is a local chapter of the international Toastmasters organization specializing in improving communication and developing leadership skills. The Saber Toastmasters meetings are a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their communication abilities in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. Auto hobby center car cleaning services
Car cleaning services are available to ID-card holders at the 52nd Force Support Squadron Auto Hobby Center. The cleaning services the auto hobby center provides are a basic agricultural cleaning, agricultural detailing, deluxe auto cleaning, exterior cleaning and interior detailing. The agricultural cleanings guarantee vehicles pass the agricultural auto shipping inspection. Prices vary based on time it takes to cleans vehicles. Dog social hour every Tuesday
Dog social hour takes place 6 - 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Pet Spa. The cost for this is $5, and a dog trainer will be there to answer questions. Dogs must be at least 6 months old and have up-to-date rabies, distemper, bordatella vaccinations on file with the Pet Spa. Call and prepay 24 hours in advance. 52nd FW Singing Sabers:
Do you like to sing? Do you play an instrument? Why not join the Singing Sabers! The Singing Sabers need new musical talent to help bring that special touch to Spangdahlem's military ceremonies. Short Game Golf Clinic

Teen glow bowling

Doggy day care

The Skelton Memorial Fitness Center offers Jiu Jitsu classes every Tuesday and Thursday in the aerobics room. Class for children 6-11 years old begins at 5:15 p.m., children 12-17 years old at 6:15 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $110 for eight classes. Two to three additional family members can participate for $60 per person. A fourth family member can participate free.
Taiji Quan class

Monthly Tier II meeting
The Tier II monthly meeting takes place at 11 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Brick House. DUI poster contest
A poster-design contest is now ongoing. Airmen Against Drunk Driving is calling all artists to submit poster designs to curb Spangdahlem's drunk driving. Three winners will be chosen every month to be displayed on the Spangdahlem Facebook page, and the first-place design will run as a logon slide until the following month.
