SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany - Many years ago volcanoes spewed lava, ash and stone across the Eifel mountains. The volcanic craters have since calmed, some filling with water, turning the area into a popular tourist location providing swimming, boating, fishing and other leisurely activities.
