A few hundred Airman and area leaders came together at the Spangdahlem Air Park Memorial for a 9/11 Commemorative Ceremony, which consisted of a prayer, poem reading and remembrance on the 12th anniversary of the attack.

"It's a day that we will always remember," said Col. David Julazadeh, 52nd Fighter Wing commander. "It's a day that is seared into our memories."

First Lt. Covey J. McAllister, air weapons officer for the 606th Air Control Squadron and mistress of ceremonies, talked about the timeline of events and the amount of people who died on that day. She also talked about all the Americans who have given the ultimate sacrifice since 2001.

"America has shown that it has not given into fear," said McAllister.

McAllister then went on to share a story of Senior Airman David Mota, a military postal clerk for the 52nd Communications Squadron. Mota was in school in Queens, N.Y., on Sept. 11.

Julazadeh and Mota placed a wreath at the foot of the memorial to conclude the ceremony in honor of all those who died on Sept. 11th, and for those who have given their lives in today's fight.

"The ceremony was really good, I am really proud everyone came out," said Mota.

During the ceremony, Julazadeh read the words that are written on the 9/11 memorial plaque.

"Together we stand," he said. "This memorial represents our unending unity, two countries forged together forever by the power of freedom and the courage of those who selflessly serve and sacrifice on her behalf. Let no force of man come between us!"
