SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The 52nd Maintenance Group welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony at hangar one here June 18. Here is more information about him.

Name/Rank: U.S. Air Force Col. Stephen Scherzer

Organization: 52nd Maintenance Group

Source of Commissioning: U.S. Air Force Academy class of 1993

Off-duty time is for: Family and enjoying everything Germany and Europe have to offer

Previous assignments:
- Director of Maintenance and Logistics; Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air, 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, FOB Oqab, Kabul, Afghanistan
- Deputy Group Commander; 82nd Training Group, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas
- Combatant Commanders' Exercise Engagement Program Manager; Joint Staff J-7, Pentagon, Virginia

Organizational Goals:
Provide trained pilots, trained maintainers, and safe, reliable aircraft and munitions resources to the combatant commander to defend American and Allied interests. Enhance partnership capacity through information exchange visits.

Work Philosophy:
I have two main missions. The first is to produce war ready aircraft and ammo. The second is to take care of the Airmen and families that make mission one possible. If you're spending resources on things that don't contribute to either, then it is time to re-evaluate.

100 percent compliance when there is clear guidance.
Be creative when we have the option to do so.
Have the courage to act in either situation.
