Explore castles, visit historic towns or enjoy adventure sports by signing up for tours and trips during the annual Explore the Eifel information and adventure fair at Club Eifel on May 24, 2019, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m..

Explore the Eifel provides the Spangdahlem Air Base community a chance to go on excursions, see and learn about local culture, festivals, history and daily life activities in the Eifel/Mosel region and in Luxembourg.

Prior to exploring the local area over the summer, the on-base information and adventure fair introduces the Eifel to base members and their families.

More than 100 exhibitors, including cities, communities, tourist agents, clubs and private organizations from the Eifel/Mosel area and Luxembourg will be at the fair with regional travel information, handing out English-language pamphlets, maps and details on events, sightseeing activities, festivals and excursions in the neighborhood and within a short driving distance.

At the fair, visitors can view demonstrations and participate in activities and games. Many prizes will be given out, to include free entry tickets to parks and concerts, and invitations to wine tastings, vinyard walks, hikes, bicycling tours, museums, picnics and wellness treatments, pony rides and shopping sprees.

Guests can sample wine and get their photo taken with wine queens, knights and other dressed-up characters.

“We were able to organize a very special event that includes new participants with many great offers and attractions. There will be music and entertainment, and visitors will be able to learn anything they ever wanted to know about the Eifel and surrounding areas,“ said Bernhard Schaefer, wing community relations advisor.

“Since this year is the 15th year that we are hosting Explore the Eifel, there will be many surprises and we will celebrate both the anniversary and the friendship with our neighbors and participants at the fair,“ Schaefer said.

“Explore the Eifel is unique throughout the Air Force and continues to be an excellent opportunity for Spangdahlem Airmen and their families to become knowledgable of the rich culture, history and attractions right here at the doorstep of the base,“ Schaefer added.

“In addition, the information provided at the fair can help newcomers become more familiar with the host nation country and better integrate into the new environment.“

Host Nation Council officials and representatives of the “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz“ initiative will be available to help answer questions from visitors.
