The 52nd Security Forces Squadron concluded National Police Week with a 5K memorial run at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, May 19th.

“National Police Week is a time to honor police officers, security forces Airmen and office of special investigation agents. Their jobs take constant courage and dedication, which many take for granted,” said Col. Joseph McFall, 52nd Fighter Wing commander. “It’s a time to thank the men and women who are serving in these roles and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”

President John F. Kennedy established National Police Week in 1962, to honor the men and women, past and present, who protect and serve. Fast-forward 55 years, the 52nd Fighter Wing still honors the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving as security forces Airmen.

The wing hosted a number of base-wide events for NPW May 15 through 19. Some of the week's events included Battle of the Badges, a physical event to challenge SFS member’s agility and stamina, a law enforcement display, a golf tournament, Jail-and-bail, a 5K base run and reading to children at the library.

More than 2,000 people participated in multiple events that took place on base here.

As a base it is important to participate in these NPW events and to take the time to remember the men and women and canine units who came before so that their legacy is continued respectfully, said Tech. Sgt. Timothy Kepple, 52nd SFS kennel master.

“Being a Security Forces Airmen, it means that myself and my fellow Security Forces Airmen are the first and last line of defense in protection of all Air Force Resources and personnel,” Kepple said. “I am entrusted to protect and serve the Air Force, the DoD and the U.S. government. It’s a proud heritage and legacy to honor.”
